SPEAK ON:
DIGITAL ID
I am writing to you today as a constituent to express my strong opposition to the development and implementation of a national Digital ID system.
While proponents argue that digital identification offers convenience, I am deeply concerned about the significant risks it poses to the fundamental rights of American citizens. My primary concerns include:
- Privacy and Surveillance: A centralized digital ID creates a single point of failure and a massive database that could be used for unprecedented government surveillance and the tracking of private citizens’ movements and transactions.
- Security Risks: No digital system is unhackable. Consolidating our most sensitive personal data into a digital format invites large-scale identity theft and state-sponsored cyberattacks.
- Exclusion and Rights: Mandatory digital identification risks disenfranchising individuals who lack access to the necessary technology, effectively creating a "pay-to-play" system for basic constitutional rights and public services.
Our current decentralized system of identification provides a necessary layer of protection against overreach. I urge you to oppose any legislation that funds, mandates, or encourages the adoption of a federal Digital ID.
Thank you for your time and for your service to our district. I look forward to hearing your position on this critical issue.
